Boutique fitness, yoga, pilates, spin and barre studios. Sweat sanitization, mat care, eco-friendly products. Cleaning that fits between your classes, not around them.
The protocols that work for a 24-hour commercial gym do not work for a 1,500 sq ft hot yoga studio. The sweat density, the equipment mix, the schedule, and the clientele are different — and so is the cleaning.
Boutique fitness studios in the GTA — yoga, pilates, spin, barre, Orangetheory-style HIIT — share a set of operational realities that make them harder to clean than they look. The sweat-to-square-foot ratio is several times higher than a commercial gym, the equipment is concentrated (mats and props on the floor, dumbbells in racks, bikes in rows), the windows between classes are 5-15 minutes, and your clientele is often more sensitive to product chemistry than the general gym population.
A studio that uses a generic commercial cleaner will smell like one. Students will notice. Reviews will mention it. The fix is not more aggressive cleaning — it is a protocol designed for the room, the schedule, and the people in it.
Below is how we approach the four studio types we clean most often in the GTA — and what makes each one different.
Different rooms, different protocols. Each contract is tailored to the studio mix.
Fragrance-free, low-residue cleaning for mat-contact surfaces. Hot yoga rooms get humidity-rated disinfection plus weekly grout treatment for mould prevention.
Orangetheory, F45, Barry's Bootcamp-style classes turn over every 50-60 minutes. We sequence cleaning around your timetable so the next group walks into a fresh room.
Concentrated sweat under each bike, shoe-clip debris that builds up under cleats, and console screens that need streak-free wipe-down. We handle each as part of the standing protocol.
Reformer springs and cables must not be sprayed — they get hand-wiped with approved disinfectant on a damp cloth. Barre studios need mirror and ballet-barre dust control.
Five steps we run during the 5-15 minute window before your next class arrives.
All high-touch points — door handles, light switches, water fountains, prop shelves — get a disinfectant wipe with the contact time the label requires.
Mats, blocks, straps returned to bins. Dumbbells back on racks. Spin bike consoles and handlebars wiped down individually.
Sweat puddles, dropped towels, and stray equipment cleared. In hot rooms, we check floor drains and squeegee any standing condensation.
Streak-free finish on studio mirrors and glass doors — the first thing your next class sees when they walk in.
Fans on, doors open briefly to refresh air. No sprays or scented products in occupied spaces. The room should smell like nothing.

Studio cleaning is as much about what you don't use as what you do.
Disinfection: Hydrogen peroxide-based or thymol-based products for mat-contact surfaces. These are Health Canada DIN-registered, leave no residue, and have neutral or mild scent. We avoid quaternary ammonium aerosols in occupied rooms — they linger, they smell, and yoga students notice.
Floor cleaning: pH-neutral, fragrance-free concentrate diluted per label. Microfibre mops on dedicated studio mops (never shared with washroom mops). Hot yoga floors get a separate slip-resistant treatment.
Glass & mirror: Streak-free glass cleaner without ammonia (ammonia degrades the silvering on older mirrors). Single-pass squeegee technique on hot room mirrors after every class.
Equipment: Damp cloth with approved disinfectant for reformer springs/cables, spin bike consoles, and dumbbell rubber coatings. We never spray equipment directly — overspray finds its way into bearings, cables, and electronics.
What we avoid: Bleach (kills mats, leaves residue, smells), scented commercial cleaners (lingers in air after class starts), aerosol sprays (mist drift onto students), and pine-based products (sensitivity triggers).
