Why Keep an Esthetician Sanitization Log

Personal services settings are inspected by public health, and the inspector wants to see reprocessing was done — a signed log is that proof.

Inspection-Ready

Local public health units inspect nail salons, spas and esthetics studios. A current, signed reprocessing log is the evidence that instruments are cleaned, disinfected and sterilized between clients.

Correct Reprocessing

Reusable tools that pierce or can break skin need cleaning then sterilization; others need disinfection. Logging the step used per item shows the right level was applied.

Spore Test Records

If you run an autoclave, biological (spore) testing verifies it actually sterilizes. Use the log type to record spore-test dates and results alongside daily loads.

Client Safety

Documented reprocessing protects clients from infection and protects you if a concern is ever raised. It shows sanitization is a routine, not an afterthought.

Want the salon or spa cleaned and the surface-cleaning records handled for you, so you can focus on reprocessing your own instruments? Our team cleans salons, spas and clinics with DIN-registered products and leaves a signed cleaning log after every visit. Standalone contracts, no lock-in.

Esthetician Sanitization Log — FAQ

Is there a free printable esthetician sanitization log?

Yes. This page generates a free, printable sanitization log you can customize with your salon or spa name and station, then print or save as a PDF. Print one per station or day, initial after each reprocessing step, and keep the completed sheets on file. Just enter your email to unlock the sheet.

What should an esthetician or nail salon sanitization log record?

For each item reprocessed: the date, the instrument or item, the step performed (clean, disinfect, or sterilize), the product and DIN used, the contact or cycle time, who did it, and notes. This generator includes all of those columns and a log type for autoclave loads and spore tests, so it works for a nail station through to a full esthetics studio.

Do Ontario nail salons and spas need to keep sanitization records?

Personal services settings in Ontario are regulated under O. Reg. 136/18 of the Health Protection and Promotion Act and inspected by the local public health unit. Inspectors expect to see that reusable instruments are properly reprocessed. Keeping a written sanitization log is the practical way to demonstrate your routine. Confirm the exact requirements with your public health unit.

What is the difference between cleaning, disinfection and sterilization?

Cleaning physically removes debris and must come first. Disinfection kills most microorganisms and is used for items that touch intact skin. Sterilization destroys all microorganisms — including spores — and is required for reusable instruments that pierce the skin or may contact blood. The log lets you record which step was applied to each item.

How often should an autoclave be spore-tested?

Biological (spore) testing verifies an autoclave actually sterilizes, and many public health units expect it on a regular schedule (commonly weekly) plus with certain loads. Record each spore test's date and result on this log using the spore-test log type. Follow your public health unit's guidance for the exact frequency.
