Why Log Cleaning in a Daycare

In licensed child care, sanitizing toys and surfaces on a set schedule is a licensing expectation — and it has to be documented.

Toys & Surfaces

Mouthed toys and shared surfaces are cleaned and sanitized on a routine (often daily, or immediately when soiled). A signed log shows the schedule was actually followed.

Diapering & Food Areas

Diapering stations are sanitized after each use and food/table surfaces before and after meals. Logging these high-risk areas is what inspectors look for first.

Inspection-Ready

Ministry program advisors and public health inspectors can request cleaning records. A current, initialled log demonstrates a consistent, defensible sanitizing routine.

Sleep Areas & Outbreaks

Cots and sleep areas need regular cleaning, with enhanced cleaning during illness outbreaks. Use the log type to flag which routine each row records.

Want the cleaning and the records handled for you? Our daycare cleaning service uses child-safe DIN-registered products on a CCEYA-aligned routine and leaves a signed cleaning log after every visit — always inspection-ready. Standalone contracts, no lock-in.

Daycare Cleaning Log — FAQ

Is there a free printable daycare cleaning and sanitizing log?

Yes. This page generates a free, printable daycare cleaning and sanitizing log you can customize with your centre name and room, then print or save as a PDF. Print one per room or station, have staff initial after each clean, and keep the completed sheets on file. Just enter your email to unlock the sheet.

What should a daycare cleaning log record?

For each clean: the date and time, the area or item (toys, diapering station, food surfaces, cots), the task, who cleaned and sanitized it, the product and DIN used, and space for notes. This generator includes all of those columns so it works for daily toy sanitizing through to diapering, food surfaces and outbreak cleaning.

How often do toys and surfaces need sanitizing in an Ontario daycare?

Under O. Reg 137/15 and Public Health Ontario's child care schedule, mouthed toys and high-touch surfaces are typically cleaned and sanitized daily or immediately when soiled, diapering stations after each use, and food surfaces before and after eating, with enhanced cleaning during outbreaks. Confirm the exact schedule with your local public health unit; the log lets you record whatever routine your program follows.

Does this log meet CCEYA / Ministry of Education requirements?

This is a free record-keeping aid aligned to O. Reg 137/15 under the CCEYA and Public Health Ontario's cleaning and disinfection schedule. It is not an official Ministry form and does not by itself guarantee compliance. Use it as your cleaning record while verifying your overall program against Ministry of Education requirements and your local public health unit.

Can our cleaning company keep these records for us?

Yes — though the licensee remains accountable for the program. A good contractor cleans to a CCEYA-aligned routine with child-safe products and leaves signed logs after each visit. Zusashi's daycare cleaning service does exactly that, so the documentation exists whether cleaning is done by staff or outsourced.
